Centenary College of Louisiana
The 2024 Corrington Award Ceremony

This stage design was for the presentation of a literary award in the Marjorie Lyons Playhouse at Centenary College. The three doors on stage are in reference to the many stories in The Ones Who Don’t Say They Love You by the author that received the award, Maurice Carlos Ruffin, and the colors are inspired by the cover of the book. The scenic design was inspired by row houses in New Orleans, where many of Ruffin’s stories take place.
From Africa to the American Dream: Dr. Kodjo Adabra

This stage design was for a presentation by Dr. Kodjo Adabra about his journey from Africa to America, presented in the Anderson Choral Building at Centenary College. The professor organizing the event wanted one side of the stage to represent Africa and leaving home, and the other side to represent making a new home in America. To accomplish this, I placed a stack of suitcases and trunks, both old and newer, on one side, and on the other, where Dr. Adabra would be speaking, a side table with a lamp and lots of plants because Dr. Adabra discusses his garden at home in his presentation. The empty space was necessary for a short dance performance, and the screen on the left had images and video back-projected onto it.
The 2023 Corrington Award Ceremony

This stage design was for the presentation of a literary award in the Anderson Choral Building at Centenary College. The organizers of the event wanted room for a piano and orchestra at the back and two lecterns at the front on either side. The author being presented the award, Aimee Nezhukumatathil, had written a book with a lot of themes of nature and wildlife, so they also wanted lots of greenery, as well as a cozy-feeling seating area for an interview segment.
James E. Taylor High School
Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare

I designed this set for Taylor High School’s production of Romeo and Juliet, which was performed in a blackbox with seating on two sides. I helped in building the set and I painted and dressed the set myself. The design was meant to represent an old and slightly overgrown castle, while also emulating a graveyard or mausoleum.
